Who we are

The Evidence Edit (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent, evidence-based skincare journal at https://evidenceedit.com. Run by a molecular and cell biologist, we do the research so you don’t have to — we only recommend skincare whose actives have published research behind them, at evidence-backed concentrations. Some of our links are affiliate links that earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you, which keeps the site running (see Affiliate links and commissions below).

What we collect and why

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site.

Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, and use it only to respond to you.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our web host records standard server log data — such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit — for security, troubleshooting, and keeping the site running. We also use cookies, described below.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of cookies. Essential cookies keep the site working and remember your privacy choices. With your consent, we may use analytics cookies (for example, to understand which articles are read); these are only set after you accept them via our cookie banner. You can review or change your choices at any time. For the full list and details, see our Cookie Policy.

Affiliate links and commissions

We take part in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. When you click an affiliate link and visit a retailer, that third party (for example, Amazon) may set its own cookies and collect data about your visit and any purchase, so it can attribute a possible commission to us. This happens on their site, under their privacy policy, not ours — we don’t receive your payment details or personal purchase information, only aggregate confirmation that a qualifying purchase occurred. Using these links never costs you anything extra. Please see the privacy policies of those retailers for how they handle your data.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content (for example, images or videos). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website directly, and those sites may collect data about you, set cookies, and monitor your interaction with that content.

How long we keep your data

Server logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operational purposes, then deleted or anonymized. If you email us, we keep the correspondence only as long as needed to handle your query. We do not currently host comments or user accounts, so we do not store comment data or member profiles.

Your rights over your data

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data — including the right to request a copy of the data we hold about you, to ask us to correct or erase it, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email us at theevidenceedit.business@gmail.com and we’ll respond as required by law. This does not cover data we’re obliged to keep for legal or security reasons.

Where your data is sent and who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that help us run the site — including our web host and, where you’ve consented, our analytics provider — and, when you click affiliate links, with the relevant affiliate networks as described above. Because these providers operate internationally, your data may be processed in countries outside your own.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the most recent version.
